Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) chief executive officer Thungchanbemo on Monday called for action to address air pollution by highlighting practical and simple solution to improve air quality.

He was speaking at culmination programme on awareness campaign on National Clean Air Programme organised by district administration in collaboration with Livingstone foundation society and Breeze Women Welfare Association (BWWA) under the theme “Celebrating International Day on clean air for blue skies” at Livingstone Foundation International (LFI) Dimapur.

Tungoe highlighted the detrimental effects of air pollution on human health, environment, and overall quality of life. He pointed out that time has come for society to take decisive action against this growing threat.

In this line, he outlined several simple yet effective steps that individuals can take to help improve air quality. He encouraged people to turn off electrical appliances when not in use as it reduces energy consumption.

Tungoe also advocated using cloth bags instead of plastic ones. To reduce vehicular emissions, he suggested walking or riding bicycles for short-distance travel as it not only helps decrease air pollution but also promotes a healthier lifestyle. Tungoe also stressed the importance of recycling and reusing materials to reduce waste and conserve natural resources.

He further said that combating air pollution does not always require large-scale interventions but a series of small, consistent efforts by individuals and communities that can collectively make a significant difference.

ADC, Dimapur Zakabo Rotokha, who also spoke at the event, addressed the problem of air pollution highlighting its significant impact on human health, ecosystems, and overall environmental quality.
