The 15th Thanamir Apple Festival was held at Thanamir village on September 10 under the theme; “Apple for Health, Wealth and Prosperity”, organised by Thanamir Village council in collaboration with District Horticulture Officer, Kiphire.
Minister of Horticulture and Women Resource Development, Salhoutuonuo Kruse graced the festival as special guest and advisor Geology & Mining, DUDA, W.Chingang Konyak as guest of honour and advisor, Fire & Emergency services, Home Guard & Civil Defence, Relief and Rehabilitation, S Kiusumew as host.
In her speech, Salhoutuonuo encouraged the villagers to plant more apple trees and produce more and assured that the department was ready support in whatever way possible even for market expansion. She also assured to provide an apple processing unit in Thanamir village through the department of Horticulture.
She also highlighted few health benefits by consuming apple. Advisors- Chingang Konyak and S Kiusumew also delivered short speeches.
Thanamir Village Council chairman, Tsechimong submitted a representation to the directorate of Horticulture for setting up of Horticulture Research Centre (HRC) at Thanamir village. He also informed on the different types of apples growing in the village. Director of Horticulture and Deputy Commissioner Kiphire and DHO Kiphire also attended the program as the guest speakers.
