Nagaland to experience rainfall till Oct 5

Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has predicted that Nagaland would experience cloudy heavy rainfall and cloudy moderate rain in almost all the districts till October 5, 2024.

NSDMA commissioner & secretary, Lhouchalie Viya, informed that the showers could be accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning at isolated places.

During that period, it said cloudy heavy rainfall was expected in the districts of Kohima, Niuland, Noklak, and Peren. It stated that the remaining districts could receive cloudy moderate rain and overcast moderate rain. As a result, NSDMA said it was critical to take the required precautions and avoid lightning strikes and high winds, which could interrupt communication and connectivity.

Further, NSDMA said that Nagaland’s lowland and foothill districts, including Dimapur, Nuiland, Chumukedima, Bhandari, Pangti, Tizit, and Tuli, were vulnerable to inundated water logging and flash floods due to the possibility of excessive precipitation in the hill sector. In this regard, NSDMA has urged the public to exercise caution to avoid any eventualities during this period. NSDMA also requested all the district disaster management authorities and other line departments to be on alert to save lives and properties during this monsoon period.

India logs more rain: The 2024 southwest monsoon season officially ended on Monday, with India recording 934.8 mm rainfall, 108% of the long-period average and the highest since 2020, according to IMD data.

Central India received 19% more rainfall than the long-period average for the region, the southern peninsula recorded 14$ more than normal, and northwest India saw 7% more than usual. East and northeast India registered 14% less rainfall than normal, the data showed.
