Gau Dhwaj Yatra: Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress flays Imchen’s remarks

Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress (NPYC) has described as “totally baseless and blatantly irresponsible” the statements made by BJP MLA and advisor, Imkong L. Imchen, that the “Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra” was sponsored by the Congress party.

NPYC through its media cell said that such “outright falsehood” was not only misleading, but also an insult to the intelligence of the Naga people.

The state youth Congress accused Imchen of being “a political chameleon”, who it said was “desperate” to divert attention from the BJP’s flawed policies and controversial Hindutva stance. NPYC also said Imchen was attempting to spread misinformation and paint the Congress party in bad light.

The youth Congress urged Imchen to provide concrete evidence to back his claims or else withdraw “his openly defamatory remarks” immediately.

NPYC said that the Congress party has always stood for secularism and unity, respecting the rich diversity of cultures and tradition in India including those of Nagaland. It claimed that the “Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Yatra” was an agenda being pursued by elements within the BJP and its affiliates, which it said reflected their obsession with imposing their ideology on the entire nation.

Further, NPYC alleged that lmchen’s attempts to fool the Nagas by creating false narratives would not succeed. It said that the people of Nagaland were well aware of the BJP’s divisive policies and its attempts to impose majoritarian ideas on Naga culturally rich and diverse land.

NPYC urged lmchen and his party to focus on delivering on their promises to the people and addressing the pressing concerns of unemployment, corruption and development in the state instead of peddling lies. The state youth Congress affirmed to continue to stand firm in its commitment to protect the rights and interests of the Naga people. “We will not allow our rich traditions and values to be eroded by the communal and divisive agenda of the BJP,” NPYC asserted.
