The Anglo-Poula Dictionary in Chakhesang was released at Conference hall, Art and Culture Department, Kohima by former MLA, Deo Nukhu on October 4.
Releasing the dictionary, Deo Nukhu, who is also the convener of the Chakheasang Poula Literature committee, said language plays a vital role in preserving the cultural heritage. He acknowledged the role of Art and Culture department as custodian of Naga culture, tradition, art and historical account.
He expressed the hope that with collective responsibility in preserving the languages in its oral and literature form, the Anglo- Dictionary in Chakheasang Poula will enrich the collective identity as Naga people and help in preserving the unique languages of the Nagas.
Assistant Professor Nagaland University, Dr. Imlienla Imchen in her introductory note said the Poula Dictionary is the cumulative work of scholars, language expert and department of Art and culture. She hoped that the effort will be a stepping stone in the documentation and development of the Poula language and literature for future generation to work, build, rework and rebuild on this foundation.
The programme was chaired by joint director, Meseno Peseyie, invocation prayer by Chakheasang Baptist Church Kohima Associate Pastor, Rev. Vekuo Rhi and welcome address by joint secretary Imtitemsu. Folk tune was presented by Zhavame Women Society Kohima, and vote of thanks by director Art and Culture Adele Moa.
