When contacted Commissioner of Police (CP) K Sophie informed that some senior members of the church had formally lodged a complaint at Chümoukedima police station on Saturday. It has come to light that there were multiple unreported incidents involving the former pastor. However, despite the serious nature of the allegations being out in the public, no formal complaints had been lodged until Friday.

A CWC member pointed out that under Section 21 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, it clearly stated that “any person who fails to report the commission of an offence” or who “fails to record such offence… shall be punished with imprisonment of either description which may extend to six months or with fine or with both.” No further details were divulged as the case was under investigation.

DNSU lauded the swift action taken by the Church Board in demanding the pastor’s immediate resignation and barring him from representing the church. This move reflected a commitment to upholding moral and ethical standards, it said.

The union also expressed support for the ongoing police investigation and urged authorities to take stringent action against the accused, ensuring justice for the victims. DNSU further appreciated the assurance given by the Commissioner of Police, to file a case or initiate suo moto action upon gathering sufficient evidence.

As an organization committed to safeguarding students’ welfare, DNSU said it was deeply disturbed by these allegations involving minors. The union stressed that crimes of sexual exploitation and abuse deserve zero tolerance

In this regard, DNSU appealed to the authorities to expedite the investigation and deliver swift justice. It also appealed to the community to extend support and protection to the victims and their families.

The union further cautioned all to refrain from making inflammatory statements, and allow law take its own course of action. DNSU said it remains committed to creating a safe environment for all, especially vulnerable groups like children and minors. “We will closely monitor the situation and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to prevent such incidents in the future,” DNSU asserted.
