North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) launched its annual STAR (Students Training & Academic Excellence) Programme from May 26 to 28. Th three-day orientation aimed to welcome the new batch of Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students from the 1st, 3rd, and 5th semesters and kick-start the academic year.
The event began with an group activity, followed by an address from Project Coordinator at Peace Channel, James Phanungkiu, who outlined the objectives of the STAR Programme and stressed the core values of social work education.
The session also included an interactive ice-breaking activity by Pezangulie Suokhrie, followed by a leadership workshop by Assistant Professor, Nlumpeule, who discussed leadership styles, communication, emotional intelligence, and goal-setting. Dr. Toli H. Kiba introduced the students to Social Work methods, while Dr. Lily Sangpui emphasized the importance of Fieldwork Practicum. The orientation concluded with a feedback session and a group photo, marking the beginning of a promising academic journey for the students.
Earlier, the progamme begin with an invocation by Dr. Fr. Robin Thomas, while founder-director of NEISSR, Dr. Fr. C.P. Anto, delivered the welcome speech. Dr. Anto encouraged students to hone their skills and adopt a compassionate approach to social work in line with NEISSR’s mission of addressing social issues with innovative solutions. Vice principal Rev. Fr. Lawrence Khing, introduced NEISSR’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values.
