Nagaland: Livestock census 2024 launched

Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Dr. Achila Ao officially launched the 21st Livestock Census 2024 on Wednesday in Kohima, encouraging the field functionaries to gather accurate census.


The 21st Livestock Census will run from October 2024 to February 2025 covering 4,74,267 households across Nagaland. Additional Director & SNO(LC&ISS) Dr. N Mhonchan Shitiri while highlighting on the 21st Livestock Census emphasized on the importance of accurate data collection by seeking cooperation and participation from all stakeholders.


Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer Dr.Sentinungla gave a power point presentation on the launching of the 21st Livestock Census 2024 by Union Minister of Fisheries, A.H & Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh on October 25, 2024 in New Delhi.


Earlier the program was chaired by Dr.Imomanen Tzudir joint director and vote of thanks by Peter economics & statistical officer. It may be mentioned that Livestock census is a quinquennial exercise in India since 1919 and the centennial census was last held in 2019.


Livestock census is a massive door to door enumeration using computer assisted personal interviewing through android phone instead of paper schedules to collection information in the field. It is conducted every five years across the country under the aegis of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying Government of India.

This census data will help in devising strategies and plans for further development of the livestock and poultry sector and determine fund distribution and service requirements needed in the sector for further internal and external funding.
