DNSU demands reconstruction of Dimapur Govt college campus wall

The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has expressed grave concern over the collapse of boundary wall of Dimapur Government College (DGC) after four to five months after it was constructed in 2022.

DNSU general secretary Michael Kath and assistant general secretary Rukewezo Wetsah in a press release lamented that despite repeated appeals by the college students, the department concerned had failed to take tangible action, compromising the security and well-being of students.

Viewing the incident as a stark reflection of the government’s apathy towards education and student welfare, they pointed out that the collapse of the wall posed a significant threat to students, especially those residing in the boys’ and girls’ hostels within the campus.

Moreover, they said it undermined the college’s ability to conduct programmes and events securely, as outsiders could easily enter. Pointing out that the incident of physical assault and extortion on October 10 further highlighted the urgency for enhanced security measures, the DNSU leaders condemned the inaction of authorities concerned and demanded immediate reconstruction of the campus boundary wall.

They appealed the state government and Education Department to immediately reconstruct the campus boundary wall and address broader security concerns, ensuring a safe environment for students. They warned that if no action was taken, they would be forced to consider democratic protest along with the students.
