State chief minister Neiphiu Rio released the autobiography of NDPP president Chingwang Konyak, titled “My Life Story”, at Niathu Resort, Chümoukedima on Friday.
Speaking at the event, Rio expressed his admiration for Konyak while reflecting on their journey together in both ruling and opposition positions. He also recalled how they came together to form the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) with Konyak as the party president.
Rio said that when he approached Konyak, Konyak initially expressed his decision to retire from electoral politics, but his desire to serve the people made him rejoin politics.
Describing Konyak as “a down to earth, approachable, and trusted leader”, Rio appreciated Konyak’s ability to connect with people from all walks of life, whether in high positions or grassroots levels.
At 81, Rio said Konyak remained active, healthy, and mentally sharp, attributing it to God’s blessings. Further, the chief minister described Konyak as a pioneer in Nagaland’s development, especially for the Eastern Naga region.
Rio also acknowledge Konyak’s leadership that has seen NDPP rise to power over two legislative assembly terms. Rio noted that while Konyak had faced both victories and setbacks, he was able to consistently managed balance challenges with wisdom.
Reflecting on Konyak’s political journey, Rio highlighted his exemplary, composed demeanour, saying that he had never seen Konyak lose his temper. Rio added that the state and the party needed Konyak’s leadership.
He expressed hope that readers of the autobiography would gain valuable insights from his life story. Meanwhile, delivering the author’s note, Konyak said he had never envisioned writing his life story.
K NDPP chief said that the journey to write the book started in 2014, when he officially retired from politics thinking he would have enough time to write the book. He, however, said that fate had other plans, as he was soon drawn back into political life.
Konyak later described each day in politics as an opportunity to serve with love and honour.
NDPP president expressed hope that his autobiography would offer guidance to younger generations and evoke memories for others.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Nungsang Aier, invocation was offered by KBBC pastor, Rev S Yoko, and vote of thanks was proposed by Phejin Ezung.
It was informed that the book, “My Life Story”, would be available at all leading bookstores and Heritage Publishers.
