Deputy chief minister T.R. Zeliang, also the minister in charge of National Highways, is set to embark on a four-day tour beginning November 11 to inspect the progress of key national highway projects in the districts of Phek, Kiphire, Tuensang, Shamator, and Mokokchung.
According to Deputy CM’s Office (DCMO), Zeliang emphasized the importance of road infrastructure as a vital pillar for economic growth and regional connectivity, highlighting the state government’s commitment to complete all highway projects to the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
DCMO said that this tour underscores the state government’s commitment to enhancing road connectivity, fostering economic growth, and improving public travel safety. During the visit, Zeliang will assess various project sites, interact with engineers, and engage in discussions with officials from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL), contractors, and local organizations.
It said that objective of the tour include reviewing project progress and timelines to identify potential delays and assess whether each project was on track to meet scheduled completion goals.
To ensure that all projects meet national quality and safety standards for the durability and reliability of the road network. DyCM will also observe environmental construction practices, including drainage systems, green cover, and eco-friendly materials. He will also meet with local community members to gather feedback on construction impacts and address any accessibility concerns.
At each project location, the deputy chief minister is expected to hold high-level meetings with engineers, contractors, and local communities to resolve any bottlenecks and explore potential state government support for timely completion. DCMO said that the findings from this tour will contribute to planning future infrastructure projects and expediting current efforts.
