Th. Muivah condoles Dr. Manmohan Singh’s demise

NSCN (I-M) ato kilonser Th. Muivah has expressed deep grief over the demise of the former prime minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh.

In a condolence message, Th. Muivah described Dr. Singh as “a leader of great vision and integ-rity”, who was instrumental in advancing the “Indo-Naga” peace talks. Muivah recalled that under Dr. Singh’s leadership, a team from his council of ministers was tasked with engaging the NSCN leadership, “reflecting his genuine commitment to resolving the Naga issue.”


Muivah also recalled that in 2010 he had the privilege of leading an NSCN delegation to meet Dr. Singh. Aware of the complexities of the Naga political issue, Muivah said Dr. Singh thought-fully remarked “The Naga political issue can be solved outside the box,” showcasing his pro-found understanding and willingness to explore innovative solutions.


The ato kilonser said that Naga people have lost “an important Indian leader” who not only comprehended Naga history but was also sincere in addressing their rights. Muivah offered condolences to Dr. Singh’s family and the people of India.


Meanwhile, NSCN (I-M) also mourned the passing of former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who it described was “the sorts of Prime Minister of India who stands out in his approach to the Naga political issue showing the way how the Naga issue can be solved.”


The group through its MIP said that Dr.Singh with “his legitimate conviction” on the historical and political rights of the Nagas was ready to go ‘extra miles’ and solve the Naga political issue ‘out of the box’.


It also recalled his words during the 6th round of talks headed by the Collective Leadership, NSCN, in New Delhi on December 7, 2004, “All efforts will be made to find a solution. A solu-tion acceptable to both the parties can only be found through talks.

We are equally keen to work out mutually acceptable honorable solution. We will be sincere in tackling the problem. We will give our utmost effort to hammer out honorable solution. We will explore jointly every possible way to bring solution”.


NSCN (I-M) stated that it was during his time as Prime Minister of India that he deputed three ministers to talk with the NSCN talk team. It said he gave the assurance to the Naga delegates on February 9, 2005 that “The pattern of relationship should be worked out”.


Further, NSCN (I-M) stated that during his one to one talk with the chief negotiator Th.Muivah at his official residence, New Delhi, on June 24, 2005, he said, “We are serious, sincere and have the confidence that we could solve the problem through peaceful means, You have to be patient with us. We have started taking every positive step. We do not under rate your issue. This is our assurance”.


Acknowledging his “boldness and sincerity” in his effort to solving the Naga political issue, the NSCN (I-M) said that the memories and experiences with such statesman would provide a last-ing legacy for the Nagas.


The group conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members and to his close friends. NSCN (I-M) maintained that the “Indo-Naga” history would keep on record his assuring words and commitment. In his demise, the group said Nagas have lost a great leader who always stood out for the Naga political solution that was “honourable and acceptable to India and Nagalim.”
