In a tragic incident, three persons reportedly drowned in Dikhu River, a few metres above Longleng-Changtongya bridge, on Saturday afternoon.
According to sources, the makeshift boat in which they were sailing capsized.
The three youth, two young men and a woman aged between 19 and 22, had gone to a group picnic with friends from PWD Ward Changtongya town, under Mokokchung district.
According to SDO (Civil) Changtongya, the accident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. when the three ventured into the river for rafting.
The victims have been identified as Ajidong (21), son of Limawati from Changtongya Yimsen; Imtimeren (22), son of Imnatoshi from Changtongya village and Imnatila (19), daughter of Rongsentemjen from Yaongyimsen village.
It was reported that the bodies were retrieved by friends and family.
The funeral programme for all three was held at PWD Ward, Changtongya town on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
