Ongpangkpong Mungdang (OM) held its 61st general conference at Khensa village where leaders of the range from various fields spoke under the theme “Tasu Itang” (Be Courageous).
In his speech, former governor and five-time former chief minister of Nagaland, Dr. SC Jamir lamented that Nagas were standing at the crossroad and have to decide whether to move forward or remain with the legacy of the past.
Jamir reminded that yesterday is gone and tomorrow will come and therefore, Nagas have to live courageously to determine either a bright or bleak future. “Why should we let others to decide and manipulate Nagaland?” asked Jamir.
The veteran Naga leader reiterated that it was high time for the Nagas to dream new dreams, set new goals with clear cut sincerity and determination.
Nagaland’s lone Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP), S Supongmeren Jamir, opined it was high time for Ongpangkong Mungdang to lead the pack (amongst the Ao Tribe) and leave behind the shadows of past glories and lead through deeds and not words.
Earlier, delivering the keynote address, Missionary at Large, Rev. Kari Longchar threw the gauntlet by saying that Nagaland, a Christian state, was now being encompassed by cancerous illness due to rampant mismanagement in the governance.
He also pointed out that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has begun the persecution of the Christians and minorities for their agendas of one Nation, one religion, one election and uniform civil with their goal to implementing Hindutva.
Rev. Kari said Nagaland was getting disintegrated and disillusioned due to an oppositionless government of corruption at the top and down to the village level ; formation of currently 26 factions while Framework Agreement (FA) and the Agreed Position (AP) were signed with the Government of India.
He maintained that those were core factors degrading the sacrifices made by the earlier generation who had the hope and belief of achieving sovereignty of one Naga nation.
At a time when the community was deeply yearning for peace and resolution, Rev. Kari appealed to OM leaders to remain courageous pathfinders with truth, sincerity, humility and divine wisdom for the love of the people.
Short speeches were also delivered by ADC Mokokchung, Chumlamo Humtsoe and Ao Senden president Marsanen Imsong. Welcome note was delivered by OM president, Lipokmeren Jamir while the conference celebratory note was given by Khensa village council chairman, I Alemmeren Longchar.
Highlights of the event included cultural song by Chuchuyimpang Riongsanger Putu Tatar Menden while the invocation was offered by KBC pastor, Mayang Walling.
