National Voters’ Day celebrated across Nagaland

The 15th National Voters Day 2025, was observed across the state under the theme, “Nothing like voting, I vote for sure,” at the DC Office Conference Hall, Kohima, on January 25, 2025. The state level programme was held at Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), Seithekema with Thavaseelan K, Principal Director of School Education, as special guest, Addressing the gathering, Thavaseelan highlighted the importance of youth participation in the electoral process and its role in strengthening democracy.


He urged the youth to recognize the power of their vote, mentioning that, “Every single vote has the potential to accelerate the democratic process. It is crucial not to be influenced by external pressures and to vote responsibly.” He also encouraged young voters to set an example by motivating their family members to participate in elections, fostering a culture of active citizenship.


Detailed perspective on the background of NVD was highlighted by DC & DEO of Chümoukedima, Polan John. The programme showcased glimpses of the Election Department in Nagaland and featured short speeches by Dr. Rudowhelie Peseyie, vice principal of Patkai Christian College.


Vyasan R, IAS Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland in his short speech, commended the intention behind hosting the celebration at Patkai, highlighting its significance in engaging the younger generation.


Vyasan also shed light on the extensive preparations undertaken by the Election department to ensure smooth elections, mentioning the collaborative efforts of various departments. NVD Pledge was administered, emphasizing the commitment to strengthening democracy. A special presentation was also delivered by the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of Patkai Christian College.


KOHIMA:
In Kohima, the event commenced with a video message from the Chief Election Commissioner of India, highlighting the celebration of 75 years of India’s democracy and the record-breaking participation of 64.6 crore voters in the 2024 elections, including a remarkable 65.78% turnout by women voters.


Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Kumar Ramnikant, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of voter participation in strengthening democracy. District SVEEP Icon, Vihuzo Kense inspired the audience with a story of a 90-year-old woman’s unwavering commitment to voting, calling on everyone, especially the youths, to honor their responsibility as voters. Best BLO award winner, Lhingboi Singson, shared her journey of overcoming challenges to transform her polling station into an efficient electoral hub.


At the programme, outstanding Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for their exceptional performance in Electoral Roll preparation during the Special Summary Revision and Continuous Updation were honoured.


First-time voters were also felicitated, and the attendees took a voter’s pledge, led by ADC & ERO Kohima, Rhosietho Ngouri. EAC Kezocha, Limakumla Pongener, who chaired the event, commended all BLOs and encouraged them to continue dedication in the coming years.


Assistant Election Officer, Chisho K Swu concluded the event with a vote of thanks, and the program closed with the National Anthem.


DIMAPUR: The day was observed at the DC’s Conference Hall in Dimapur. The event was chaired by Zakabo V. Rotokha, ADC, Dimapur, who also delivered the welcome speech. He encouraged all voters to make their voices heard and take pride in contributing to a brighter and stronger future through their participation. He expressed gratitude to the attendees for their commitment to democracy.


The celebration featured the felicitation of winners from the essay and painting competitions conducted in its honor. Best Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for 2025 were also honoured. Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Dimapur, administered the Voter’s Pledge and delivered a speech emphasizing the need for active electoral participation and the power of every vote.

Earlier the program commenced with the display of a message from the Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Toshimongba Longchar, Assistant Election Officer, Dimapur, who expressed appreciation to all dignitaries, officials, and participants for their support and contributions.


PHEK: The National voters’ Day was celebrated at the conference hall, DC office Phek with John Tsulise Sangtam, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Phek as special guest. Speaking on the importance of voting, DC & DEO reiterated on why we celebrate National voters’ day and how it is our responsibility to vote in the right manner and to vote for the right person who has the calibre and responsibility to change the society and the nation as a whole. He also encouraged the young voters to vote for change in the society Administration of NVD pledge was led by Saratho Kaitry, SDO (C) and AERO, Phek.


KIPHIRE: The celebration of National Voters’ Day 2025 was held at DC Conference Hall, Kiphire with the DC & DEO, Kiphire, Temsuwati Longkumer as special guest. EAC & AEO Kiphire, Nitile Tep chaired the program and administered the voter’s pledge to the officials, BLOs and first-time voters taking the voter’s pledges.


TUENSANG: In Tuensang, the day was celebrated at DC’s Conference Hall organized by district administration and District Election Officer in collaboration with Akashvani Kohima under BIND Scheme on the theme “India of my Dreams”.


Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, DC & DEO, Tuensang in her short speech thanked the Akashvani Kohima for Collaboration with district administration and District Election Officer, Tuensang for making this Programme a success. Best BLO and winners of essay competition and extempore speech competition were awarded.


WOKHA: Wokha District celebrated National Voters Day at Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall. Delivering keynote address, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Vineet Kumar, emphasized the significance of the event. During the program, two individuals were awarded as the Best Booth Level Officers and two newly enrolled young voters were also felicitated.

A message from the Chief Election Commissioner was also displayed, while the Additional Deputy Commissioner and Electoral Registration Officer, Wokha, Renbomo Ezung administered the voters’ pledge.


MOKOKCHUNG: Mokokchung district celebrated the day at Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Mokokchung, organized by District Election office in collaboration with Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) Fazl Ali College( FAC), Mokokchung. Speaking at the programme as guest of honour, L.S Vinod Kumar, vice principal, Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung maintained that National Voters Day has been celebrated since 2011 under various themes, to disseminate the importance of voting.

He encouraged the youths to be aware of the importance of their voting rights. Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji in his keynote address called for active participation of all the enrolled voters in the democratic process of the nation. Welcome address was delivered by ADC Mokokchung, Chumlamo Humtsoe.


PEREN: Peren district celebrated the day at PTWWO Hall with ADC and Electoral Officer, Peren, Keyirangding Hegui as special guest. In his speech, Keyirangding Hegui spoke on the significance of the National Voters’ Day, and reminded the young electors of their voting rights. He also highlighted the status of the electors of the district and appealed for more enrollment specially the 18-19 years age group.


Peren district SVEEP Icon, Kimkhailiu Pamai in her short speech, encouraged the youngsters to come forward and get registered.


NOKLAK: In Noklak, the day was celebrated at DC’s conference hall, Noklak. Speaking on the occasion, DC & DEO, Noklak Arikumba congratulated the awardees of Essay competition, Best BLO awardee and all the newly enrolled young voters encouraging them to exercise their entitlement wisely. He also encouraged all the eligible voters about the enrolment process and advised them to cast their vote for the capable leader who can lead and work for the community.

EAC and AEO in-charge Noklak, Menlom Phom in his keynote stressed on the importance of voting as a fundamental right granted to all the Indian citizens irrespective of caste, race and colour above the age of 18. He emphasised the need to understand one’s voting rights stating that having voting rights is a privilege at the same time a responsibility. ‘


TSEMINYU: The 15th National Voters’ Day was held at DC’s conference hall, Tseminyu while the voter pledge was administered by SDO (civil) Tseminyu, Tsidi.
Runohile Keppen Campus Ambassador, Tseminyu, in her short speech spoke on the theme while DC Tseminyu, Rohit Singh, highlights on the voting rights.
