SUGGESTS PRIVATIZATION FOR MAINTENANCE AND REVENUE GENERATION
Deputy chief minister TR Zeliang on Monday inaugurated the newly constructed Public Works Department (PWD) Rest House at Jalukie. The rest has been constructed with a cost of Rs. 3.2 crore, within a period of 20 months.
Addressing the gathering, Zeliang congratulated the department and the contractor, Dreams Enterprise, for completing the project within 20 months. Highlighting the significance of the new rest house, Zeliang said hosting dignitaries in the district had been challenging due to a lack of proper accommodations, and with the completion of the rest house, Jalukie would now have proper accommodations to cater to officials, dignitaries, and tourists from and outside the state.
Zeliang also emphasized the importance of maintaining the rest house, raising concerns about the adequacy of relying solely on a chowkidar and sweeper for upkeep.
To address this, he proposed privatization of the rest house as a viable solution to ensure proper maintenance and for generating revenue.
He further said that the rest house was not only for district and state officials, but will also serve officers from outside the state and tourists visiting the region. He also announced that a tourist lodge would soon be inaugurated in the district.
Delivering address as the guest of honor, minister PWD (Housing) and Mechanical Engineering, Bashangmongba Chang, described the inauguration of the Rest House as a “significant milestone” in improving public infrastructure, which would provide comfortable accommodations and serve as hub for administrative efficiency and hospitality.
He extended gratitude to deputy chief minister Zeliang for his initiative and unwavering support in realizing the project. Earlier, the programme was chaired by EE, PWD (H) D1, Er Abija Khing, dedicatory prayer by Pastor, JTBC, Rev Dr Mongzeung Mpom, and technical report delivered by SDO, Peren Sub Division, Er Neikerhe.
