TPO, TSU congratulatePadma Shri Hangthing

Thang Public Organisation (TPO) and Thang Students’ Union (TSU) have congratulated, L. Hangthing, a resident of Thang (Noklak) Village, on being conferred the prestigious Padma Shri Award 2025 in the field of agriculture for his outstanding contributions spanning over 30 years.


TPO president S Shai and general secretary B Khaiko Lam said that Hangthing’s achievement marks a historic milestone for the Khiamniungan tribe, making him the first recipient of the Padma Shri from the community. Describing Hangthing’s recognition as a testament to his resilience, dedication, and passion for agriculture, TPO emphasized that this honor reflects the work ethic of the Khiamniungan Nagas and serves as a reminder that geographic remoteness is no barrier to excellence.


TSU: Thang Students’ Union (TSU) also expressed gratitude and admiration, highlighting Hangthing’s contributions to self-reliance and economic growth in rural communities.


The union president Thungiu Longshen and general secretary Khumeng T acknowledged his relentless dedication to the “vocal for local” ethos and described the Padma Shri as a well-deserved lifetime achievement. TSU said his work has impacted over 40 villages, benefiting 400 households through innovative farming techniques and initiatives aimed at enhancing rural livelihoods.


Both organizations praised Hangthing’s exemplary service to humanity and hoped his success would inspire future generations to strive for excellence and contribute to societal progress. Hangthing’s recognition has been widely celebrated as a proud moment for the Khiamniungan Tribe and Nagaland as a whole.
