Asano Sekhose, who was instrumental in bringing transformative changes in Nagaland’s educational ecosystem, retired from the post of chairperson Nagaland Board of School Education.
In honour of her dedicated service, the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), Kohima, organized a farewell program on January 31 at the NBSE Conference Hall, Block 1, attended by officials, staff, and dignitaries.
Secretary Rangumbuing Nsarangbe will serve as the acting chairperson. Speaking at the programme, advisor of School Education and SCERT, Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, praised Sekhose for her significant contributions over the past decade.
He highlighted that under her leadership, the NBSE had achieved numerous milestones, building trust not only within the state but also across India. Sekhose’s role in the Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE) was particularly noteworthy, as she represented Nagaland with pride and distinction.
Yhome emphasized the importance of education in shaping society, noting that NBSE’s examination system has played a crucial role in helping students build their careers and contribute to the state’s legacy. He also commended Sekhose for spearheading the digitization of student records, which has streamlined processes and enhanced the board’s efficiency.
Additionally, Yhome revealed that the NBSE is preparing to relocate to a larger facility, with the government allocating 4.35 lakh acres for a new building with full facility. He stressed the importance of education as a tool for empowerment and progress. Yhome also mentioned the upcoming implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) in higher education, urging stakeholders to prepare for the changes.
Yhome lauded the NBSE for its punctuality and efficiency, noting that it was one of the few departments that operates with such discipline. He also clarified that they will not be adopting any new service rule/act of the NBSE, as it was a promotional post and will follow the act of 1974.
Commissioner and Secretary School Education and SCERT, Kevileno Angami, reflected on Sekhose’s career, which began in 1990. She praised Sekhose’s dedication and leadership, which had elevated the NBSE’s credibility above many other state boards.
Kevileno acknowledged Sekhose’s involvement in COBSE and her efforts to bring about transformative changes in Nagaland’s educational ecosystem. She expressed gratitude for Sekhose’s tireless work and unwavering commitment to excellence, which has left an indelible mark on the state’s school education system.
The program began with an invocation by NBSE chief coordinator (IT) Kekhrielhoutuo Nakhro and concluded with a benediction by NBSE Academic Officer Dziesevolie Tsurho. Secretary Rangumbuing Nsarangbe delivered a speech on behalf of the NBSE staff, while joint secretary Ekyimo Shitirie chaired the event.
