A public rally has been organized by the Konyak Union (KU) at Longwa, Chen and Tobu villages on February 3, to protest against the border fencing and scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) by the Government of India along the Indo-Myanmar border area.
In this regard, Longwa Students’ Union (LSU) president Nahlak Wangnao and general secretary Manom Taiwangshu have urged all adult residents of Longwa to attend the rally, emphasizing that the move to scrap FMR and erect border fencing would divide the people, disrupt peace, and hamper traditional integrity and rights.
To ensure the smooth conduct of the rally, LSU has issued the several directives. Shops and institutions within Longwa jurisdiction to remain closed from 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., except for healthcare services.
Entry and exit of vehicles, including daily Sumo services, along with public and tourist movement, have been strictly prohibited during the same period. Exceptions have been made for healthcare services. LSU warned that defaulters will face penalties for violating these directives.
