CMO Kohima bans sale of Myanmar food products

Designated Officer (Food Safety), O/o, Chief Medical Officer, Kohima, Kezhangulie Yimchunger, has informed all Food Business Operators to stop distributing sale of Myanmar food products in Kohima.


In a press release, CMO informed that as per Regulation 5 (6) (b) of Food Safety and Standards (Labeling and Display) Regulations 2020, “Where an article of food is imported into India, the package of food shall also carry the name and complete address of the importer in India”.

However, the food products of Myanmar does not adhere to the stated regulation and was in violation of the food safety regulation. CMO therefore warned that failure to comply with the ban would invite legal prosecution under Section 58 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
