Kiusam Area Students’ Union (KASU) has registered complaint against non-availability of teachers at government middle school (GMS) Kiusam town and sought the intervention of principal director school education to address the issue.
In a complaint letter addressed to the principal director school education, the KASU president LY Tokim and secretary K Khiungchu stated that GMS Kiusam town erstwhile GHS Kiusam town had been facing acute shortage of teachers for the past many years.
KASU said that in the year 2016, there was assistant headmaster posted, but thereafter no HM/AHM was posted at the erstwhile GHS.
The unio also informed that two-three teachers, who were posted, were undergoing B.Ed training without relievers. KASU said it was unaware of the department’s in-service training policy during those years. As such, KASU said the erstwhile GHS produced nil results in the past years and led to its downgradation.
Since 2019, KASU said a lone science teacher was posted and was serving still at GMS Kiusam town. The union informed that admission for the academic year 2025 was being carried out singlehandedly by the lone teacher. “This has created fear in the minds of students and parents as the outcome may not be that good when there is only one teacher,” KASU stated.
Despite repeated requests by various organisations including apex student union, KASU said the department has not taken concrete action to address the issue. As a result, the union said the students and the community were suffering. KASU has, therefore, appealed to the department to look into the matter seriously and deploy adequate teachers at GMS Kiusam town at the earliest.
