More organisations have condemned the brutal killing of a woman by her husband identified as one Kughato Yeptho at Thilixu village, Chumoukedima district on February 9, 2025.
SH: Sümi Hoho “unequivocally” condemned the “tragic incident” and said that such “heinous acts of domestic violence” were abhorrent and had no place in the society.
SH through its president Dr. Vihuto Asumi stated that such acts not only shattered the sanctity of family but also “deeply wound the moral fabric of our community.”
The hoho commended the Nagaland police for their prompt action in apprehending the accused. “Their swift response is a testament to their dedication to justice and the safety of our citizens,” SH stated.
Further, SH appealed to the law enforcement agencies to ensure that the perpetrator faced the full extent of the law. The hoho stressed that justice is served swiftly and decisively to deter such acts in the future and to uphold the rule of law.
The hoho also called upon all members of the community to remain vigilant against domestic violence and to support initiatives that promote awareness, prevention, and intervention.
WSH: Western Siimi Hoho (WSH) expressed deep concern and shock over the “heinous crime”, which it said has sent shockwaves throughout the community, creating an atmosphere of fear and trauma.
WSH through its media cell strongly condemned the inhumane act, which it maintained had no place on a civilized society. The hoho said that such acts of violence posed a significant threat to the social fabric. It urged all responsible citizens to join in condemning this atrocity.
WSH also implored the law enforcement agencies to ensure that justice was served and the perpetrator received the servest punishment possible.
The hoho extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal rest of the departed soul.
STH: Sümi Totimi Hoho (STH) strongly condemned the “heinous crime” and expressed “extreme perturbation over this vile act”, which it said “not only tormented the victim but also perpetuates a culture of violence against women, creating a sense of insecurity within our society.”
STH through its media secretary Gloria Awomi demanded that the culprit be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. STH also expressed solidarity with the victim’s family and loved ones and reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for an end to violence against women.
ATKK: Aghunato Tokukujo Kukami Kuqhakulu (ATKK) condemned the “brutal and tragic double murder” of late Hutoshi Chophy, who was three months pregnant.
ATKK through its chairman H Ghokiho Zhimomi stated that “this heartwrenching incident” has once again highlighted the growing problem of domestic violence in the society. It said the loss of both mother and her unborn child was a tragedy that not only affected her family but also deeply impacted the entire community.
ATKK maintained that domestic violence, in any form, was an intolerable crime, adding that everyone must stand united in condemning such heinous acts.
The union has urged the responsible authorities to conduct a thorough and swift investigation and take stringent legal action against the perpetrator. ATKK has also conveyed condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
STK unit: Sumi Totimi Hoho (STH) Aghunato area also unequivocally condemned the “reprehensible” act committed by Kughato, saying “this brutal act” was not only a gross violation of human decency but also a stark reminder of the pervasive issue of domestic violence that continued to plague the society.
In light of the gravity of the crime, STH unit through its president Vihuli H Kiho and general secretary Nikaholi Achumi called upon the relevant authorities to provide justice without compromise by imposing a life sentence on the perpetrator.
STH unit expressed belief that such a measure was essential not only as a punitive response but also as a clear unwavering message that acts of domestic violence would not be tolerated.
“Our thoughts remain with the bereaved family during this time of unimaginable loss,” the women body said and expressed hope that this tragic incident would serve as a catalyst for profound societal reflection and lasting change—prompting all stakeholders to address and eradicate the conditions that enable such atrocities.
SKD: Sukomi Kuqhakulu Dimapur (SKD) also expressed deep shock and grief over the incident and said that “this heinous act” had not only cost an innocent life, but also posed a threat to peace and harmony in the society.
SKD through its president G Tosukha Chophy and general secretary D Kheshito asserted that “such heinous act” was unacceptable in any society cannot be tolerated.
The union demanded that the law enforcement authority act efficiently and decisively to ensure that justice was delivered without delay and the hold perpetrator accountable for his heinous act.
SKD also urged the responsible authority to take decisive action to prevent such heinous crime in the society. The union has expressed solidarity with the victim’s family and loved ones and reaffirmed commitment towards safe and just society.
