Western Sumi Students’ Union concerned over liquor sale

Western Sumi Students’ Union (WSSU) has expressed serious concern over what it described as “proliferation of liquor sale and the unregulated operation of numerous bars, discos and lounges” taking place in the state.

In a press release, WSSU president, Ikato Khulu and general secretary, Vitoka N Rochill pointed out that despite being considered as dry state under NLTP Act, unchecked distribution of liquor continued.

The union stated that such activities have contributed to “juvenile delinquency” particularity among the underage students, negatively impacting the wellbeing of youth and causing disturbance.

However, it said many civil and religious organisations remained silent on those issues.
WSSU has, therefore, affirmed not to remain silent but pursue further action if the government and other civil society organisations continued to remain silent.
