Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP) has bagged the prestigious SKOCH Award 2024.
The award was received by DCF (Hqs) and NFMP deputy project director Ango Konyak and Wennyei Konyak, resident commissioner of Nagaland House, New Delhi on behalf of the department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change at an event organised as part of the 100th SKOCH Summit held at India Habitat Centre, Delhi on Saturday.
Implemented by DEFCC with assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), NFMP aims to improve forest ecosystem and support income generation by rehabilitating jhum areas and supporting livelihoods. It focuses on sustainable forest and environment conservation, and improving livelihoods in targeted villages through need-based and village-specific interventions led by Joint Forest Management Committees.
The project’s implementation timeline is 2017-2027, and it will cover 185 villages across 11 districts and 22 forest ranges. The project will cover an area of 79,096 hectare under forest intervention and also aims to form 555 self-help groups under livelihood component.
One of the highest independent honours bestowed upon states and organisations, the SKOCH Award is known for its rigorous and independent outcome-based assessment process.
SKOCH Group, the organisers of the award, is India’s leading think tank dealing with socio-economic issues, with focus on inclusive growth since 1997. It has instituted India’s highest independent civilian honours in the field of governance, technology, economics and social sector.
The award was supported by CEOs’ Association for Inclusive India (CAII), a voluntary association for CEOs working for inclusive growth of India through social, digital and financial inclusion initiatives.
