All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary in-charge of Nagaland, Christopher Tilak, along with Lok Sabha MP & NPCC president S. Supongmeren Jamir, NPCC working president Khriedi Theunuo, and other party leaders, visited Peren Dimapur and Wokha districts on February 18 as part of a statewide inter-district tour program.
Addressing gatherings at Crave Inn Hotel, Jalukie, and Congress Bhavan, Dimapur, Khriedi Theunuo emphasized the importance of unity, reaffirming the Congress Party’s commitment to secularism and inclusive politics. He noted that the overwhelming bipartisan support in the last General Elections reflected the people’s desire for change and confidence in Congress’ dedication to constitutional and democratic ideals.
S. Supongmeren Jamir stated that Congress should aim to form the government in Nagaland in 2028. He urged grassroots mobilization in Peren district, stressing that securing an MLA from the region was vital. He also highlighted the need for party reorganization in the larger interest of Congress and emphasized that a well-planned strategy would be key to success in upcoming elections.
Christopher Tilak, in his address, stated that his visit was aimed at strengthening the party and understanding Nagaland’s political landscape. He acknowledged the achievement of electing a Member of Parliament despite Congress having no MLA in the state.
Comparing the political equation, he said, “The ruling government may have a Chief Minister, but the opposition has a Member of Lok Sabha,” underscoring Congress’ growing presence.
Tilak also warned of BJP’s policies threatening democracy and tribal rights. He raised concerns about political instability in the Northeast and rising unemployment, forcing many youths to migrate for jobs. He urged active participation of youth, women, and all stakeholders in shaping the party’s electoral strategy for 2028.
Meanwhile, at Dimapur, Congress formally welcomed Taliyanger, retired additional director of Rural Development department, into the party fold. The events were chaired by Namrachang Hegui, President, DCC Peren, and Kumjimong, General Secretary, DCC Dimapur.
In Wokha, the party leaders discussed strengthening the party organization, political challenges, and grassroots mobilization. Tilak emphasized the need for action, drawing parallels between Mahatma Gandhi’s mass mobilization and Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. He highlighted four pillars of politics—narrative, leadership, organization, and fieldwork—while criticizing the BJP for misleading people and neglecting employment and development.
S. Supongmeren Jamir urged for the election of capable leaders within the PCC, assuring that party restructuring aims to revive Congress in Nagaland. He acknowledged possible misunderstandings but assured inclusivity in leadership decisions.
NPCC working president Khriedi Theunuo reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the 2028 elections under Roadmap 2025-26, endorsed by Rahul Gandhi, with a statewide tour program underway.
