Ao Students’ Conference decries absence of RTO Mokokchung

Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has registered complaint against the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Mokokchung for remaining absent from duty on a regular basis.

In a letter addressed to the transport commissioner, the AKM president Lanutoshi Aier and general secretary Satemmongba stated that the regional transport officer had been regularly absent from official duty causing significant inconvenience to the public who rely on RTO’s presence for essential services such as license applications, vehicle registrations and other transport related matters.

The signatories said that several citizens, including AKM officials, visited the RTO office Mokokchung multiple times only to find the officer unavailable.

“This has forced the people to make repeated visits, leading to unnecessary delays and hardships particularly for those who travel from rural towns and villages,” AKM stated.
Further, the apex Ao student body stated that lack of proper accountability and responsiveness was affecting the efficiency of the department and causing distress to the general public.

AKM said the issue was raised to the deputy commissioner (DC) Mokokchung in 2024 considering his position as the district head. However, it said the concerned officer was yet to show any signs of sincerity.

AKM has, therefore, requested the transport commissioner to urgently intervene and take the necessary measures to ensure RTO’s regular presence at his designated posting.
It also appealed to the department to implement a monitoring mechanism to ensure accountability and the smooth functioning of the office.
