Sedekevi Peli (Peli No. 17) of D. Khel, Kohima Village, observed its 25th anniversary at Tsiethoukhouzou Mechüpru, D. Khel on March 1. The event was graced by advisor of School Education & SCERT Kekhrielhoulie Yhome.
Addressing the gathering, Kekhrielhoulie emphasized the importance of strong youth in building a resilient and prosperous village. He highlighted the ancient concept of the “fear of the stranger,” which is ingrained in everyone, but stressed the need for caution and discernment in distinguishing between what is beneficial and harmful for society. He also touched upon the issue of food security, noting that Kohima Village is blessed with fertile land, and urged the community to focus on self-sustainability.
He also encouraged the villagers to be open-minded and welcome outsiders or living outside the village while remaining rooted in their traditions and values. Emphasizing that love and mutual respect, are enduring principles that bind a community together, he commended the gathering for embodying those values.
Chairman of Dapfhütsumia Council Pelesielie Khezhie extended greetings and applauded Sedekevi Peli for their remarkable achievements despite relatively young age. He praised the youth as the pride of their khel (clan) and village, and expressed expressing hope that their accomplishments would inspire others.
President of the Daphütsumia Peli Union Neisakuolie Kire urged the upcoming Peli members to seek guidance, avoid giving importance to alcohol in such celebrations, and take their responsibilities seriously. He emphasized the importance of working for the betterment of society and commended Sedekevi Peli for their vision and dedication.
He also appreciated the inauguration of a resting shed for the community, a testament to their service. Menuosetuo Yiese, president of Sedekevi Peli, delivered the greetings and highlighted the significance of the occasion. As part of the celebrations, a traditional resting place and a jubilee stone were inaugurated, symbolizing the Peli’s enduring legacy.
Earlier, the program began with an invocation by Medoselhou Keretsu, a deacon from Khedi Baptist Church, who blessed the event and set a spiritual tone for the celebrations.
Convenor of the organizing committee Keneikhrietuo Khezhie, shared the history of Sedekevi Peli.
He informed the gathering that the Peli was formed in 2000 by 13 youths who initially worked in the fields to raise funds. Today, the Peli has grown to 63 members, including 48 boys and 15 girls, reflecting its strong foundation and growth over the years.
Sedekevi Peli jubilee was not only a celebration of its past achievements but also a reaffirmation of its commitment to community service, unity, and progress. The event was chaired by Kelhouravo Kire and Ketoulhounuo Khezhie and vote of thanks by Kelhousekuo Khezhie.
