A one-day district-level workshop on the Pre- Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act, gender-based violence, and medico-legal care for survivors or victims of sexual violence was held on February 27 at the Conference Hall, Chief Medical Officer’s office.
Chief Medical Officer, Wokha, Dr. Thungchanbemo Ezung, welcomed the medical officers and registered medical practitioners, providing a brief introduction to the importance of the PC-PNDT Act. He encouraged them to strengthen and implement the act at their respective health facilities.
Resource person, Medical Officer, Englan PHC, Dr. Mhajan Kikon explained that the main objective of the PC-PNDT Act was to prevent female foeticide and sex determination. He discussed the law’s objectives, the necessary training for medical practitioners, fines for offenders, and the constitution of statutory bodies at the state and district levels.
He also informed that seven clinics in Wokha are currently registered under the act. He further briefed participants on the features of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Bill.
During the second session, District Programme Manager, Mhonbeni Ezung, took session on services under Mission Shakti, umbrella scheme for safety, security and empowerment of women.
