A public awareness campaign was held on February 27, under the aegis of National River Conservation Directorate (NCRD) – a centrally sponsored scheme under the Ministry of Jal Shakti and organised by PHED, Government of Nagaland.
A press release from, PHED WSSO state IEC consultant Thepfulie informed that the awareness campaign covered various Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across the state.
Activities included plantation of trees and flower saplings cum cleaning of the main water reservoir area of Kohima town by the state team to keep the reservoir area clean and improve the aesthetic beauty of the area. Cleaning of wastes along the stretch of Chathe river under Chumoukedima ULB was also carried out.
The event also highlighted painting competition for Government school students under Pfutsero ULB on the theme “Every drop counts; protect your river.” In the evening, cultural programs and awareness talks on the “Public Awareness Campaign of Rivers” were held under Chiephobozou ULB, featuring district resource persons from the PHED department.
