The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has urged all stakeholders to support the redevelopment of Dimapur Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme—a transformative initiative that has the potential to redefine Nagaland’s connectivity, economic landscape, and overall progress.
In a press release, DNSU highlighted that as the only railway station in Nagaland, Dimapur Railway station is more than just an infrastructural facility. “It is the lifeline of our people, a crucial artery of commerce, and symbol of our collective aspirations,” DNSU said, adding that upgrading it to world-class standards is not merely a matter of modernization, but an essential step toward securing a prosperous future for generations to come. DNSU outlined three key reasons why the redevelopment is essential.
Economic advancement: A modern railway station will serve as a catalyst for economic growth, attracting investments, stimulating tourism, and creating substantial employment opportunities for Nagaland’s youth.
Seamless connectivity: Enhanced infrastructure will ensure smoother and more efficient travel, strengthening Nagaland’s integration with the rest of India and beyond.
State Prestige: A world-class station will serve as a testament to Nagaland’s progress, fostering a renewed sense of pride and placing the State firmly on the national map.
Appeal to landowners and Stakeholders: Acknowledging concerns surrounding land acquisition, DNSU called on landowners to consider the long-term benefits of the project.
The union recognized the sensitivities involved but urged stakeholders to adopt a broader perspective, emphasizing that while development may require collective sacrifices, it also brings shared rewards.
In order to ensure that this historic opportunity is not impede, DNSU appealed to the landowners and relevant stakeholders to engage in meaningful and solution-driven discussions with Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) and the Dimapur district administration.
To consider fair and just compensation mechanism that uphold the interests of all parties and prioritize the greater good, over individual constraints, recognizing that progress for one is progress for all.
DNSU said it firmly believe that with cooperation and dialogue, an equitable resolution can be reached—one that balances development with fairness.
The union warned against allowing bureaucratic hurdles or short-term obstacles to derail the vision of a modern and thriving Nagaland.
Urging Dimapur residents to embrace this transformation, DNSU called on the community to work together in making Dimapur Railway Station a symbol of progress and a gateway to new opportunities, and a proud reflection of Nagaland’s resilience and ambition.
