NCD delegation meets NFR officials at Maligaon

A delegation of Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) officials held a meeting with the chief passenger transportation manager (CPTM) at Maligaon Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) headquarters in Guwahati, on March 13, 2025 and discussed the plight of passengers and explored possible solutions to address the issues at Dimapur Railway Station.

NCD delegation included its president Etsungmomo Kikon, vice president (CB) GK Rengma, vigilance committee convener N. Joseph Lemtur and general secretary LK Peter Anal.
NCD said they met NFR official in response to the ongoing challenges faced by passengers boarding and alighting from the large trains at Dimapur Railway Station.

NCD official team, through formal representations, apprised CPTM of the severe hardships faced by the large number of passengers at Dimapur Railway Station. NCD team specifically highlighted two key demands—immediate resumption/restoration of the Nagaland Express service on the original route between Guwahati and Dimapur and increase in the stoppage duration of the Jan Satabdi.

The council pointed out that Nagaland Express launched in 2011 operated between Dimapur and Guwahati until its service was discontinued in 2020, with its route extended to Dibrugarh.

They said the change caused significant inconvenience to the large number of passengers at Dimapur Railway Station. NCD also pointed out that Jan Satabdi, which operates between Guwahati and Jorhat, only stops for two minutes at Dimapur Railway Station. They said that brief stop creates a rushed environment for passengers to board and alight, often leading to panic-like stampedes upon the train’s arrival.

“Such a short stop is particularly inconvenient for elderly passengers, patients, and those carrying heavy luggage,” NCD said. It, therefore, appealed for increasing stoppage duration of Jan Satabdi from the current 2 minutes to 7-10 minutes.

NCD members stressed that addressing the concerns would significantly improve the travel experience for passengers. CPTM reportedly assured the NCD team that he would look into the matter and provide a response at the earliest.
