Several organisations have condoled the demise of Dr Senkalong Yaden at Tyler, Texas, USA on Saturday.
MP: Lok Sabha member and Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president S Supongmeren Jamir in a message said he was deeply saddened to hear of the passing away of Yaden.
Describing Yaden as an accomplished scholar and academic, a devoted family man and a principled person till the very end, Jamir stated that his demise was an irreparable loss not just to his family, but also to untold lives and communities in Nagaland and in the USA.
On behalf of the NPCC, Jamir extended deepest condolences to the bereaved family during this time of grief. He also prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
AKM: The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) and Naga National Council (Parent Body) too condoled the death of Yaden.
Expressing deep sorrow and regret at the passing of Yaden, who was listed in the “American Men and Women of Science” and was popularly known as “American Man of Science”, AKM president Lanutoshi Aier and general secretary Satemmongba in a statement pointed out that he was a distinguished scientist, educator, and a researcher.
They said his immense contributions to the field of science and education had left an indelible mark, inspiring generations. According to them, Yaden’s dedication to knowledge and research was a source of pride for the Ao community, the Naga people, and the global scientific community.
They said his remarkable academic journey and professional achievements reflected his dedication and hard work, adding that his loss was deeply felt not only by his family and loved ones but also by the scientific and academic community.
In honour of his memory, they request all educational institutions under the jurisdiction of Mokokchung district to observe one minute of silence on Monday, as a mark of respect and remembrance for his valuable contribution towards the people.
In this time of grief, they extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, his wife, and all those mourning his departure.
Praying that God grant them strength and solace in this difficult time, they wished his soul to rest in eternal peace.
NNC (PB): The NNC (PB) expressed sorrow over the demise of Yaden, former president of the council. NNC (PB) general secretary V Nagi in a message said Yaden was an honest, noble and a father figure to the Naga people in America, adding that he was also the most academically accomplished person with the highest degree holder among Naga political leaders.
He said that Yaden stood firm for Naga sovereignty. Noting that Yaden was one of the few educated youth back in the days who handled paperwork and compiled Naga voters’ signatures for the May 16, 1951 Naga National Voluntary Plebiscite (Political Referendum), Nagi said he was also at Chedema village during the 1964 ceasefire talks between the and the Government of India and Federal Government of Nagaland.
He also organised an important seminar at Kohima for the Naga people in 1982 during his visit to Nagaland from America, besides being present along with his wife throughout the Atlanta Meet for Naga Reconciliation in 1997 organised by the North American Baptist Association.
He was ultimately elected as president of the NNC in 2007 during the council’s general meeting at Mopongchukit in Ao region for a five-year term.
Besides his service in Naga politics, he greatly and significantly contributed to scientific education and research in America.
Stating that the Nagas had indeed lost a great and learned leader, Nagi on behalf of the NNC (PB) paid homage and deepest condolences to Yaden and his family.
He maintained that Yaden would be profoundly remembered for his service for the Naga cause, and above all for being a noble and an exemplary person. He prayed to God to bless his soul to rest in eternal peace.
LKM: The Langpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang (Langpangkong Students’ Conference– LKM) has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Dr. Senkalong Yaden, describing him as “a distinguished scientist from Merangkong village and a beacon of wisdom for the Langpangkong range.”
Recognized as the “Man of Science,” LKM said Dr. Yaden was a stalwart in the pursuit of knowledge and a strong advocate for the aspirations of the Naga people. His tenure as president of the Naga National Council (NNC) was marked by unwavering commitment to justice and self-determination, LKM said.
The conference noted that his remarkable contributions in both scientific and public spheres have left an indelible legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
LKM conveyed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and well-wishers, standing in solidarity with them in this moment of grief. “We pray for strength and solace for all who mourn his loss,” the statement read.
