A one-day block-level sensitisation and training programme for School Management Committees (SMCs) and School Management and Development Committees (SMDCs) was held across Phek, Zunheboto, and Kohima districts. The programme commenced on March 17 and will be conducted across 46 blocks in Nagaland until March 28, 2025.
In a press release, principal director, Directorate of School Education & Project Director, NEP – The Lighthouse (NECTAR), Thavaseelan K informed that the programme jointly organized by the Directorate of School Education (DoSE), Samagra Shiksha, and the NECTAR Project, aimed to strengthen SMCs and SMDCs by enhancing their understanding of roles, responsibilities, initiatives and activities under the Departmentof School Education.
The training for EBRC L Khel, Kohima, was held at the Directorate of School Education (DoSE), Kohima, chaired by coordinator of EBRC, L Khel, Vizoneilie Pienyu. The keynote address was delivered by assistant district coordinator, District Mission Authority, Samagra Shiksha, Ruokuoneinuo; joint director of DoSE, Lebu Krose, presented the department’s achievements and activities, which included the PM Poshan Mid-Day Meal, free distribution of school textbooks, science activities, teacher awards at district, state, and national levels, scholarships for government school students (std. 5-12), Chief Minister’s Meritorious Scholarship, Governor’s Scholarship, free deworming, and the distribution of Iron and Folic supplements in schools.
Deputy mission director of Samagra Shiksha, Kelhikha Kenye, introduced the objectives of the programme, stressing the importance of strengthening school enrolment. He also discussed the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR), noting its benefits in ensuring the security and convenience of students’ educational documents, with only 26% of students in the state currently registered. The session also covered topics like NIPUN Bharat, Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) curriculum, Kala Utsav, inclusive education, and vocational education.
Project coordinator EBRC, NECTAR, Visato Koso, discussed the launch of the NECTAR project and its key initiatives. These included the development of one Lighthouse School Complex in each of the 16 districts, the SMILE App, and the Performance Incentive Grants (PIG), which have benefited 99% (1914) of government schools in the state.
He also highlighted Exam Reforms, implemented in collaboration with NBSE, and various Governance and Capacity Building trainings conducted with DoSE and SCERT.
The programme concluded with a session by P3 Consortium under the NECTAR Project, focusing on the roles and responsibilities of SMCs/SMDCs, followed by a self-reflection report card to assess their performance.
