Demo and awareness on soybean

ICAR-KVK Phek, at ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema, organized a training-cum-demonstration and awareness programme on the importance of soybean from March 26 to 29, 2025.


The event was sponsored by ICAR-National Soybean Research Institute, Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The training-cum-demonstration programme was conducted in four villages – Porba, Yoruba, Lanye, and Meluri.


Dr. T. Esther Longkumer, CTO-Soil Science, delivered a lecture on organic soybean cultivation, while Dr. Hannah K. Asangla, CTO-Agronomy, spoke on the package and practices of soybean cultivation.


An awareness programme on the importance of soybean was held on March 31, 2025, at ICAR-KVK Phek, Porba. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. T. Esther Longkumer, highlighting the significance and potential of soybean cultivation.

She also presented on organic soybean production. Dr. Hannah K. Asangla, shared insights on the package and practices of soybean cultivation. Dr. Sharanappa CH, SMS-Plant Protection, elaborated on effective insect pest management strategies for soybean and Dr. Venkatesh, SMS-Agriculture Engineering, discussed the importance of value addition in soybean and showcased a film on value-added products.

An interactive session between farmers and scientists facilitated a fruitful discussion on agricultural challenges and potential solutions. Inputs were distributed to the participants. The programme was moderated by Dr. Harini K. R., SMS-Animal Science, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Manjunath K. S., SMS-Horticulture.
