The Ministry of Labour & Employment, in collaboration with state governments across India, has launched a 10-day special nationwide registration campaign from April 7 to 17, aimed at enrolling gig and platform workers on the e-Shram portal.
The campaign follows key announcements made in the Union Budget 2025–26, which introduced progressive support measures for India’s growing gig and platform workforce. These include individuals engaged in part-time or hourly jobs—from event catering to software development—as well as those working through digital service platforms, such as delivery agents.
According to the Ministry, the registration initiative is a major step towards formal recognition and social security inclusion, enabling registered workers to access benefits under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).
The scheme offers health coverage of ₹5 lakh per family annually, valid in over 31,000 empanelled hospitals across the country. Key features of the campaign include:Registration of gig and platform workers on the e-Shram portal, Issuance of official e-Shram identity cards, Free enrollment under AB-PMJAY for eligible workers.
To ensure wide participation, on-ground registration camps will be set up in every district, coordinated by the respective Assistant Labour Commissioner’s Offices. All platform-based gig workers are strongly encouraged to visit their nearest camp during the drive.
