Nagaland governor La Ganesan, chief minister Neiphiu Rio and deputy chief minister Y. Patton have expressed grief over the passing of Pope Francis.
Gov: Governor Ganesan said he was deeply saddened by the demise of the Pope, describing him as a revered spiritual leader whose life exemplified humility, compassion, and unwavering faith.
“As the Head of the Catholic Church, he championed the cause of peace, social justice and care for the poor and the marginalized. His leadership inspired millions across the world, transcending boundaries of faith and culture.
On behalf of the people of Nagaland and on my own behalf, I offer my heartfelt condolences to the Catholic community and all who mourn his passing,” he said. He further prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.
CM: Chief minister Rio expressed his condolence saying: “With a heavy heart, I join the world in mourning the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. A shepherd of peace, his humility, wisdom, and compassion transcended faiths. May his enduring legacy continue to inspire humanity, and may his soul rest in peace.”
DyCM: Deputy chief minister Y. Patton also conveyed his condolences. “Mourning the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, a humble servant of God who walked in the footsteps of Christ with grace and conviction. In word and deed, he reflected the Gospel’s call to love the poor, forgive freely, and protect creation,” Patton said.
He described the Pope’s papacy as a light to many—“a reminder that faith must be lived with compassion, that justice and mercy must guide our steps. He stood with the brokenhearted, spoke for the silenced, and led the faithful with the heart of a shepherd.” Patton prayed for eternal rest for the departed soul and said the Pope’s memory would continue to guide the Church in truth, service, and love.
