In a significant breakthrough, Dimapur Police has busted a vehicle scam racket and arrested three individuals involved in defrauding multiple vehicle owners and car rental companies. A total of 15 vehicles were recovered during the operation, which has exposed a sophisticated loan fraud scheme.
According to a press release issued by DCP Crime & PRO Dimapur police, the accused– posing as used car dealers– approached unsuspecting vehicle owners and rental firms under the pretext of purchasing or renting vehicles. Once the vehicles were in their custody, the accused used them as collateral to obtain loans from third parties, all without the knowledge or consent of the original owners. Using this modus operandi, the accused defrauded numerous vehicle owners and car rental companies, amassing substantial amounts of money by fraudulently obtaining loans from persons.
Altogether 15 assorted vehicles were recovered from different locations and handed over to the rightful owners, PRO said.
Accordingly, PRO said that three individuals were arrested, identified as Mughaboto (39 years), Yambothung Ngullie (22 years) and Kinigha Chishi (23 years).
A case has been registered and investigation is currently underway, PRO added.
