A mother and son were found brutally murdered in their home in Mahddipur village, Khagaria district, on Monday morning, in a case strongly suspected to be linked to a land dispute.
The victims, Phul Devi (60) and her son Pankaj Kumar (35), were shot, and Kumar also had his throat slit with a sharp weapon. Preliminary investigations point to an ongoing dispute over eight bighas of land.
The victim’s daughter, Savita Kumari, told police the attack happened while her mother and brother were sleeping. She suspects the accused targeted them for revenge, possibly in connection with a previous incident where a relative of the opposing party was killed. Her father, Saatan Singh, is currently jailed over the same land dispute.
Pasraha police ASI Narendra Singh confirmed the incident appears to stem from old family enmity. “We suspect this attack was an act of revenge,” he stated, adding that an FIR has been registered based on names provided by the victims’ family, and raids are underway to apprehend the culprits. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and an FSL team is collecting evidence from the crime scene.
This case highlights growing concerns about land-related violence in rural Bihar.
