A two-week badminton coaching camp for girls was officially launched under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative at the Indoor Badminton Stadium, Thegabakha, Kohima on June 23. The event was jointly organized by the Kohima District Administration, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Department of Social Welfare, and the Kohima District Badminton Association (KDBA).
Welcoming the gathering, district programme officer and nodal officer for Mission Shakti, Anyile Khamo, highlighted the launch of the BBBP scheme in Kohima on June 30, 2023. She emphasized the programme’s consistent efforts in promoting healthcare, skill development, quality education, and sports for girls. Urging participants to seize the opportunity, she encouraged them to strive for personal growth through sports.
Special guest EAC Kohima, Ane Khieya, stated that the coaching camp was an initiative under the BBBP Action Plan aimed at empowering girls through sports. She informed that 30 girls—20 from government schools and 10 from private institutions have been selected to receive training during the camp.
The launch programme was chaired by honorary secretary of KDBA, Seto Khate, while an invocation prayer was offered by Rev. Azato Kiba of New Life Church, Kohima. The event also featured a special musical performance by Leiving and Sagar.
