WSYF, ASUD, DLYO condemn assault by non-local traders

DIMAPUR, JUN 27 (NPN)

Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF), Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) and Dimapur Lotha Youth Organisation (DLYO) have condemned the alleged assault on local customer, Meyi Jamir, by non-local traders at Murgipatti, Dimapur while buying vegetables on June 26.
WSYF: Expressing concern and outrage over the incident, the Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) through its media cell affirmed that any form of physical assault, intimidation, or threat to the safety, dignity, and well-being of local citizens by non-local individuals or business entities would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The youth body cautioned that its patience was not limitless, adding that “our silence must not be misinterpreted as submission.”
Asserting safety and security of indigenous people was non-negotiable, the WSYF warned that it would not remain a mute spectator to such cowardly and shameful acts.
The youth front stated that non-local traders have long enjoyed the peace, protection, and prosperity “offered by our land and its people.” However, WSYF affirmed to take firm and direct action “if this generosity is repaid with violence and disrespect towards the sons and daughters of this soil”.
Letting its final and uncompromising stance known to all non-local traders operating in Dimapur and beyond, the youth body urged them to conduct their business peacefully, lawfully and with respect. “Stay within the bounds of trade. Do not interfere in matters that do not concern you. Do not provoke. Do not assault. Do not mistake our hospitality and silence for weakness or test the limits of our restrain,” WSYF maintained.
If such incidents repeated, the youth body warned that strict and immediate consequences would follow. WSYF also said it would use every means necessary to ensure that such anti-local elements were identified, isolated and actions taken as per the law.
Affirming to protect and defend its people, WSYF said that safety and security of its people cannot be compromised and warned that any threat would be met with “unwavering resistance and zero compromise.”
ASUD: Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) strongly condemned what it described as “reprehensible act of physical assault” on a local customer Meyi Jamir, by non-local traders in Murgipatti Dimapur on June 26, 2025.
In a press release, ASUD president Imnatemsu Pongen and general secretary Tongpangnechet Kichu stated that such an act of barbarism against an innocent customer was not only an assault on individual but also a direct challenge to the peace and order in Dimapur.
Serving what it termed as “an ultimate ultimatum” on all non-local traders operating in Dimapur, the ASUD said it supported a harmonious environment for all but it would not compromise on the safety and well-being of its people.
“ We want to make it unequivocally clear that this is an ultimate ultimatum to all non-local traders,” ASUD said.
It further warned that any further incidents of assault, harassment, or exploitation of local populace would be met with uncompromising and decisive action from the ASUD.
The union also urged the responsible authorities to take swift and stringent action against the perpetrators of the recent assault and to ensure the safety of all citizens.
