EDTC orders removal of abandoned cables

DIMAPUR

East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) has directed all service providers and residents to remove unused and abandoned overhead and underground cable wires by July 31, 2025.
In a public notice, EDTC said the step was taken to improve public safety, maintain cleanliness, and prevent hazards in public spaces. The council observed that many unattended cables and wires were causing obstructions along roads, footpaths, and utility areas, posing risks to pedestrians and maintenance workers.
It also notified that prior written approval from EDTC will now be mandatory for any new cable installations, both overhead and underground. No installations will be allowed without this clearance.
The council further stated that unauthorized construction of drains from main roads would be treated as a violation.
EDTC warned that failure to comply will invite penalties, removal of illegal infrastructure.
