Department of Water Resources held a commissioning and handing over programme of the Shiyong Minor Irrigation (M.I) Project under PMKSY–Har Khet Ko Pani at Aliba village, Mokokchung on June 26. Advisor of Water Resources, Tongpang Ozukum attended the event as special guest, a DIPR report informed.
In his speech, Tongpang urged agriculture and allied departments to provide logistics support and infrastructure for the project. He said the project would open avenues for tourism, recreation, fisheries and aquaculture, which would boost the local economy. Tongpang thanked the department for timely completion of the project and reiterated that the objective of PMKSY was to improve irrigation, ensure efficient water use, and strengthen water security in agriculture. He formally handed over the project to the Water User Association (WUA) of Shiyong M.I Project. On behalf of the department, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by executive engineer WRD Mokokchung, Er. Karipomg Walling. A technical report was presented by additional chief engineer WRD, Er. Sobu Angami. He informed that the project was funded under PMKSY-HKKP (CSS of MoJS, GoI) at an estimated cost of Rs. 141.92 lakh. Work began in March 2021 and was completed in April 2024. The total area covered is 69 hectares, with a water spread of 3 hectares.
Chairman of Aliba Village Council, Tatongkaba Pongen, also delivered a short speech. A special song was presented by Nungshikala Pongen. The programme began with an invocation by pastor of Aliba Baptist Church, Rev. Nungshi Pongen, and concluded with a vote of thanks by WRD Mokokchung E.E., Er. Sademkaba Ozukum. The programme was led by UDA WRD Mokokchung, Imtisungkum.
