AYO extends taxi verification drive to July 2

The Angami Youth Organization (AYO) has announced the extension of its ongoing local and regional taxi verification drive till July 2, 2025. The verification exercise, which began on June 24, has seen an overwhelming response from both taxi owners and drivers, with a total of 1,427 taxis registered as of the fifth day of the drive.
In a press briefing held on Saturday evening at it’s office, AYO president, Kesosul Christopher Ltu, informed that due to the heavy turnout and logistical challenges, certain localities could not be adequately covered on their designated days.
Initially, slots were assigned to areas such as Lerie, AG, BOC, hote Japfü junction parking and Paramedical, but not all taxis from these locations could be accommodated. Saturday’s session also saw an overflow, prompting the organization to extend the drive by three additional days—Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (June 30 to July 2).
The official clarified that some taxis had been withheld from receiving verified stickers due to incomplete documentation or the absence of the owners or drivers for mandatory signature verification. He informed that the verification process was jointly organized by AYO in collaboration with the All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA).
AYO has made it clear that no local or regional taxi—whether registered under NL01 or NL07—will be allowed to operate beyond July 2 without proper verification. Vehicles failing to register by the deadline will be assumed to have forged documents, questionable ownership, or be operating illegally. “No local or regional taxi will be permitted to ply without a valid permit and verified sticker after July 2,” the official stated.
AYO also informed that discrepancies and suspicious documentation had been detected in some cases, and those vehicles have been temporarily excluded from receiving verification stickers. However, details of such cases have been entered into the organization’s records and will be addressed in a subsequent press conference. “We will soon come out with a comprehensive report highlighting the loopholes and discrepancies found during the process,” the official said.
Verification involves a three-stage process. The first table records all necessary documents, including those of the vehicle, owner, and driver.
The second table involves the signing of an undertaking, where the owner accepts responsibility for the vehicle. Only after successful scrutiny at these two stages, the verified sticker issued at the third table.
The official also confirmed that field verification would commence from July 3 onwards to ensure that only verified taxis are operational. “There is no point in just table verification. Physical checks are essential to confirm that only legitimate taxis are plying,” he said.
AYO is also accepting vehicles under second and third ownership, though with specific remarks made in the records. These details will be submitted to the relevant authorities and media in due course, Ltu said.
Asked about the number of questionable cases, the official said the data is still being compiled and will be released once the verification process concludes on July 2.
