Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM) chairman, Obed Quinker, on June 27 inaugurated a Quality Stock Bee Multiplication Centre at N. Longidang village under Wokha district.
Speaking at the programme, Quinker said the centre was set up in recognition of the commitment shown by local apiarists. He said the facility was the first of its kind in Wokha and could become a centre of excellence for beekeeping in the region. He acknowledged the support of chief minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio, for promoting beekeeping as a sustainable livelihood sector.
Quinker also encouraged local beekeepers to stay committed, citing the example of para-apiarist Renphamo Murry, who played a key role in the project.
Additional secretary to the CM and NBHM team leader, Sentiwapang Aier, said the centre had been a long-standing goal of the Mission, aimed at serving as a common training and resource hub for beekeepers. He also urged the community to adopt self-reliant and sustainable practices.
NBHM deputy team leader, Er. Khuvozoyi Vese, briefed on the technical aspects of the facility and said the location was chosen for its suitability and accessibility.
Earlier, a similar Quality Stock Bee Multiplication Centre was inaugurated at Mima village on June 26. Quinker said the centre would benefit beekeeping efforts in Kohima district, which has remained a priority area for NBHM since its inception.
The Mima programme was chaired by team member in-charge of Kohima district, Nelazonu. Both events were attended by local farmers, beekeepers, and officials.
