ICAR-KVK Dimapur and ICAR Nagaland Centre, in collaboration with the District Agriculture Office, Chumoukedima, launched the Paddy Seed Village Programme at Dhansiripar village on July 1.
The initiative aims to promote improved paddy cultivation methods, enhance food security, and boost the livelihood of farming communities in the district.
Gracing the occasion as chief guest, District Agriculture Officer, Moainla Pongen stressed the importance of using scientific techniques and quality seeds for better yields. She said the paddy sector holds vast potential for economic growth in the region.
Dr. Harendra Verma, scientist (Plant Breeding & Genetics), ICAR Nagaland Centre, shared insights on modern farming practices, including seed treatment, pest control, water management, and timely sowing. Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Dimapur, Dr. Phool Kumari, reaffirmed the department’s commitment to building farmer capacity and providing grassroots-level support.
A total of 32 participants, including farmers, local leaders, and officials from KVK, ICAR and Agriculture department, attended the programme. Farmers received five quintals of RC Maniphou-7 paddy seeds and a paddy transplanter. An interaction session followed, where queries related to paddy cultivation were addressed.
The event was chaired by Dr. Moanaro, Technical Officer, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Bendangla Imsong, CTO, KVK Dimapur.
