GPRN/NNC (AB) condemns impeachment move

DIMAPUR

Government of the People’s Republic of Nagaland/Naga National Council (Apex Body), GPRN/NNC (AB), has strongly condemned the recent impeachment of its president, SS Pongkhu Naga, by Francis Kikon, terming the act illegal and unauthorized.
In a press statement issued through its MIP, the GPRN/NNC (AB) said an emergency meeting was held at the president’s residence on July 2. The meeting reaffirmed that the impeachment was carried out without consultation with the Council of Kilonsers and Tatar Hoho, in violation of the Yezhabo (Constitution).
The group alleged that Kikon, who joined the organisation only in July 2024, had misused government seals on plain paper to assign unauthorized persons for financial matters at HoDs and markets. A High Level Enquiry Committee has been set up to probe the matter. Citing misuse of power, financial mismanagement, and health-related inability to perform party duties, the GPRN/NNC (AB) said Kikon has been removed from the acting general secretary post. It also accused him of attempting to cover up his actions by illegally suspending key leaders, including Alu Yimkhiung (defence) and the president himself.
The MIP asserted that SS Pongkhu, who has served since 1986, remains the legitimate president as per the Yezhabo and enjoys full support from party members. It also clarified that GPRN/NNC (AB) would not be held responsible for any illegal collections made under Kikon’s name.
The leadership structure under president SS Pongkhu, home Kilonser Kitoho Zhimo, and others remains intact, it added. The public has been cautioned not to entertain anyone claiming to represent GPRN/NNC (AB) without written consent from the president.
