Deputy chief minister, Y Patton, Old Boys Association of Sainik Schools (OBASS), Nagaland Chapter and Kripa Foundation Nagaland have expressed deep sorrow at the sudden demise of Dr. Phyobemo Ngullie, an esteemed alumnus of Sainik School Purulia, West Bengal. Dr. Ngullie was widely recognized for his enduring contributions to public health, education, and peace-building efforts.
Dy. CM Y Patton: Nagaland’s deputy chief minister and minister for Home & Border Affairs, Y Patton, described late Dr. Ngullie as an “illustrious physician” whose selfless service left a significant mark on Naga society.
In a condolence message, Patton paid tribute to Dr. Ngully’s contributions to healthcare, human rights advocacy, and community development. He recalled Dr. Ngully’s unwavering commitment to improving mental health awareness in rural areas, notably through his annual “Mind Your Health” workshops conducted in remote villages, supported by the Kohima Educational Trust (KET) and Kohima Educational Society (KES).
Late Dr. Ngully served as chairman of the Kohima Educational Society until his demise, a role in which he championed inclusive healthcare and education initiatives. Patton remarked that his passing is not only a personal loss but a loss for the entire Naga community.
“His legacy reflects a life devoted to public service and the betterment of society,” Patton stated, while extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and offering prayers for the departed soul’s eternal peace.
The state and society, Patton added, will remember Dr. Ngully for his generosity of spirit and his tireless efforts to uplift those in need.
OBASS Nagaland: In a condolence message, OBASS president H.K. Khulu and press secretary Deepak Chettri stated that that Ngullie’s death marks a significant loss to both the medical fraternity and the wider civil society in Nagaland.
They described Late Dr. Ngullie, as a pioneering psychiatrist, who was among the first from Nagaland to establish psychiatric treatment services in the state. His efforts helped lay the foundation for mental health care in the region, addressing long-standing gaps in public health.
Apart from his medical contributions, OBASS said that Dr. Ngullie was also a founding member of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR). He played a vital role in fostering dialogue and understanding among various Naga nationalist groups, contributing to efforts toward unity and peace.
The OBASS Nagaland Chapter remembered him as a man of discipline, wisdom, and humility qualities instilled during his years as a Sainik School cadet. He also served under numerous civil society platforms, where he was widely respected for his commitment to community service and social justice.
OBASS conveyed its condolences to the bereaved family, stating, “May the Almighty grant them strength and solace, and may the departed soul rest in eternal peace.”
Kripa Foundation Nagaland: Director and staff Kripa Foundation Nagaland expressed deep sorrow and grief at the sudden demise of chairman, Dr P. Ngully. In a condolence message, the foundation stated that late Dr. Ngully was closely associated with the foundation for the last many years and had served in the capacity of Medical Officer, director and chairman.
“He was a great mentor for everyone here in Kripa Foundation. He was a wise, dynamic leader, in addressing issues and challenges of Substance use (Drugs and Alcoholism), Mental health disorders, as well as crisis and conflict intervention/resolution”, the message added.
They said Dr Ngully was a competent and efficient administrator, a remarkable gentleman who motivated with his humility, soft-spoken, pleasant natured, courageous, open-minded, and a God-fearing person, ever willing to help marginalised groups of people. The foundation would continue to remember him with respect and admiration for his able leadership and contribution to Kripa Foundation and to the state of Nagaland, especially in the field of substance use disorder, HIV programs and to the Naga peace process.
The foundation also extended deepest condolences to the bereaved family members at this difficult moment, and prayed that the Almighty grant solace and serenity.
