GPRN/NNC (AB) Councils flay impeachment move

DIMAPUR

The Regional Councils of the GPRN/NNC (AB) held an emergency meeting at Showuba on Thursday, during which they reaffirmed their full support to incumbent president S.S. Pongkhu Naga and strongly condemned the recent attempted impeachment move initiated by Francis Kikon, terming it “illegal, unauthorized, and unconstitutional.”
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP), the councils declared that S.S. Pongkhu Naga continues to be the legitimate president of GPRN/NNC (AB), citing his active participation in several rounds of the Naga political dialogue facilitated by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR). The leadership noted that Francis Kikon, who was serving as acting general secretary, never once accompanied the president in any official capacity due to prolonged illness. They said that Kikon was no longer useful to the organisation and that his attempt to summon president Pongkhu Naga and chief of army Alu Yimkhiung was summarily rejected as unlawful and procedurally invalid.
The Councils– including representatives from Sumi, Yimkhiung, Chang, Zeliang, Kuki, and Sangtam communities— levelled series of charges against Kikon. These included misuse of power, financial mismanagement, unauthorized use of official seals and documents, and defamation of leadership without consulting the collective body.
Further, the Zeliang Region noted that Kikon had joined the group only in 2023 and had failed to convene a single official meeting. He was accused of using the organisation’s name to solicit funds informally and was declared officially terminated by party decision.
They also appealed to the public and business community to refrain from any dealings with him.
The Sumi Region accused Kikon as a “selfish leader and money monger” and warned that he would be held responsible for any disruptions caused within the organisation. The region reaffirmed its confidence in Pongkhu Naga’s leadership and commitment to the Naga national cause.
The Yimkhiung Region described Kikon’s conduct as unconstitutional and indicative of repeated leadership failure. It also hailed the current leadership’s firm approach to such “selfish elements” and stressed the importance of discipline within the ranks.
Further, Chang, Kuki, and Sangtam Regions accused Kikon of spreading misinformation via social media and pledged their full support to president Pongkhu Naga. They pledged to safeguard the unity and legitimacy of GPRN/NNC (AB).
