In two separate incidents reported from Dimapur and Kohima, police recovered the bodies of unidentified women—one in the early hours of Sunday from Walford Road, Dimapur, and the other in the form of skeletal remains retrieved from the Dzü River near Chedema on Saturday evening.
In both cases, the identities of the deceased remain unknown, and police have appealed to the public for assistance in tracing their identity.
Dimapur: According to Wemeri Mero, vice chairman of Northern Angami Colony Walford, the woman reportedly in her mid-30s, was found her lying unresponsive by some passers-by. The East Police Station was immediately alerted and a police team arrived at the scene around 2:30 a.m. The body was subsequently recovered and taken to the District Hospital Dimapur morgue for post-mortem examination. At the time of filing this report, the identity of the deceased remains unknown.
Skeletal remains recovered: In a grim discovery, human skeletal remains believed to be that of a female aged approximately 25–30 years was retrieved from the Dzü River near Zero Point, Chedema, on July 5 around 5 p.m.
In a press note, PRO Kohima Police said that the remains were found downstream of the river and recovered following due procedures. A post-mortem and inquest were conducted, and all legal formalities have been completed. The skeletal remains are currently being kept at the morgue facility of North Police Station, Kohima, pending identification.
Kohima Police have appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the deceased. Individuals or families who may have reported a missing person– particularly in or around Chedema area or Dzü River vicinity—have been urged to contact North PS at 7005986018 with any relevant information.
Details such as approximate time of disappearance, description, or last known location could help in establishing the identity and bring closure to the family of the deceased.
