Alleged sexual assault on minor at New Market

DIMAPUR, JUL 6 (NPN)

A minor Naga girl, reportedly around 10 years of age, was allegedly sexually assaulted by a non-Naga shopkeeper at New Market area in Dimapur.
According to sources, the incident reportedly took place within the shop premises. An FIR has been filed at the Women Police Station, Dimapur, and the matter is currently under investigation. At the time of filing this report, police authorities could not be reached for further comments. (Staff Reporter)
Condemnation: Gaon Bura of New Market, Ward-19, Khekishe Aye has expressed deep anguish and strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl by a shopkeeper in New Market area, terming the act as “heinous and unacceptable”.
In a statement, the GB said that such reprehensible crimes against innocent children must be condemned by all sections of society. He said that the incident has not only tarnished the image of New Market but also raises serious concerns over the safety and security of the public, especially children.
The GB assured that the market authorities would extend full cooperation to the police in the ongoing investigation and would work to ensure that such incidents do not recur in future.
Calling for enhanced security in the area, the GB appealed for installation of CCTV cameras, conduct of child safety awareness programmes and regular police patrolling within the market premises. “We are committed to ensuring that New Market remains a safe space for all—especially for children and families who visit daily,” he added.
